About the U17 AAA Airdrie Avalanche
We are proud to showcase a team of elite 15- and 16-year-old athletes who are passionate about excelling in the sport of hockey. The Avalanche, along with the U18AAA Bisons and U15AAA Xtreme, are integral members of the Alberta Elite Hockey League (AEHL) and the AEHC family.
Built on the core values of teamwork, sportsmanship, and continuous improvement, the Avalanche provides an environment where players can push their limits, grow their skills, and achieve their full potential. Guided by experienced coaches, our program emphasizes advanced skill development with the goal of preparing players for the next level, while instilling qualities of leadership, discipline, and a strong work ethic.
Relocated to Airdrie in 2022, the Avalanche proudly call the Rob Ebbesen Arena home. Off the ice, we prioritize comprehensive player development, including leadership training and off-ice conditioning, ensuring our athletes are well-rounded and ready to take on future challenges.
As part of the AEHC family, we share a commitment to coaching excellence, leadership, opportunity, optimal development, and citizenship. Together, we strive for success at the highest levels of competition, creating a legacy that extends far beyond the rink.
Join us in cheering on the Airdrie Avalanche as we build the future of elite hockey and foster the next generation of community leaders!

What does it take
to be on the Avalanche?
Clear communication and expectations are highly valued by the Avalanche organization, and we want to ensure all athletes are made aware of the expectations coming into Training Camp.
The AAA Avalanche roster will be selected based on the following criteria:
Ultra-Competitive: Physical and mental effort with a relentless obsession to be successful and disciplined.
IQ & Hockey Sense: High level decision-making and execution under adverse conditions through developed habits.
Puck Management & Puck Patience: Possess an outstanding panic scale and consistently keep pucks alive through puck distribution or puck ownership.
SAQ & Escapability: Ability to move at a high pace with body control, dynamic mobility and conceptual awareness.
Innovation & Deception: Courage to try and execute creative tactics and skills with unpredictability.
Stick Skills: Offensive and defensive proficiency to move, tip, handle, shoot, elevate and check pucks.
Strength & Power: Size is not a factor and players are able to exert their power on opponents and do so consistently shift after shift and game after game.
